A couple of days ago, Vampire Weekend's sophomore album, Contra, was released. For most bands, a good album after a critically acclaimed first album is hard to achieve. It seems as though Vampire Weekend was able to break through that stereotypical shell with an album that is different than their first, but that still has the same quirks everyone loved about their debut album, Vampire Weekend. The opening track, Horchata, in my opinion, isn't the strongest opening track. I think if they opened it with the second song on the album, Holiday, it would have had a better opening. After a few listens, I started to really love Contra. The sound is a lot lighter than Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend had a lot of heavier guitar riffs and drum lines than Contra has which gives Contra a more playful, and ethnic feel. There is a phenomenal piano line that comes in around the chorus of my favorite song on the album, I Think Ur a Contra. Over all, I give this album a 100/10.
Happy Thursday!
